Think about it…mixing ingredients together in a bowl, such as eggs, butter, sugar, and milk. What can you get? Cookies, cake, brownies, pie, cookies, cake, cookies. Did I say cake? What you get when you’re combining ingredients together is completely left up to the person mixing the ingredients. You could end up with anything from delicious cookies, to not-so-delicious mush.
The art of blending ingredients is something much more challenging than a lot of people give credit to doing. Certainly when I blend ingredients together I want to make the best possible concoction. The exciting part of it all is that I really don’t know what I will get until it’s ‘done’. What exactly is ‘done’?
Each year I begin with the hope of everything incredible. I want to create an incredible learning experience so that you, my students, can take with you at the end of the year a memory so powerful that you remember it forever. Can I do that? Will you let me?
It seems SO far away, but at the end of our school year together in 2012, we will look back and wonder how it all passed by so quickly for us all. We will wonder if the choices we made were the best to help poises ourselves for everything yet to come.
You are an ingredient to this classroom. You have been selected to mix and blend with other ingredients in our class with the hopes of creating a most fantastic dish. You will help control what we become as a whole and at the end of the year, you will be able to see how well the combination of ingredients in out class has helped you to grow into a better human being. I am so excited about the surprise dish we will make together, I hope you are too. Welcome to Mr. Petris’ class in Room 17.
